There are a lot of people losing jobs in the tech industry due to many reasons, most of which will be blamed on the economy. Here is the list:
- Pandora: Lays off 20 employees
- Zivity: Lays off 8 employees
- Adbrite: Lays off 40 employees
- hi5: lays off 10-15 employees
- eBay: Lays off 1500 employees
- Seesmic: Lays off 7 employees
- Redfin: Lays off 20 employees
- Jive Software: Lays off 40 employees
Total: 1647 employees.
Most of the reasoning for these lays offs was restructuring and almost every company has reported that they are hiring more people. As condensending as it is, most of these companies blogged about their lay offs and said they are sad to see these people go but they have to prepare for the worest with the economy going to crap. So who are they hiring and who are they firing? I’d really like to know if this is just an excuse to clean ship and get some better talent in or if they are really hiring people for different positions. Positions that will make them more money now, like developers vs. HR emplyees. Comments are welcome, let me know what you think.

Any excuse to clean house and get rid of the mediocre talent is a good thing. This economic downturn could be a very fortuitous occurrence in the long run.
